How to respond for success
I attended a BlackRock panel event prior to applying, showing my interest and making connections with individuals within the firm. I applied for this just through their website (just submitted my CV). I had a typical CV structure for banking internships: One page, well laid out and easy to read. I also had appropriate experience and buzz words at the start of each work experience description. Such as “Organised, Managed, Developed” etc.
Expect an immediate invite to the next stage.
Virtual Interview
You will receive an invite to complete 2x video interviews over Zoom. The first interview is focused situational based questions with a member of the team you are applying to. This round was hard to prepare for as it was testing your situational judgement. To prepare I would suggest knowing the the company's values well, and being yourself!
The second video interview was a competency and motivational based round, involving questions such as “tell me a time you…”. I used the STAR technique in all of my answers to reflect how I would bring these skills to the job, given the opportunity.
Example task
In the Scenario based interview expect things along the lines of: “If your manager were to give you a piece of work you were unsure about, how would you navigate this”.
In the Motivational and Competency based interview, expect things along the lines of: “Tell me a time where you showed teamwork” or “Tell me a time you persevered” type questions.
How to respond for success
You need to work understand what they are looking for within the role specifically. How you could be that, and how can your skills and previous experience related to that. Be your best smiley self and radiate confidence. Dress well and look the part. I thoroughly researched the company before hand and knew values and skills they required. Also speak to yourself in the mirror before the call! Get in the flow of chatting.
Expect around a 24-48 hour wait before receiving an offer.
