The initial stage requires you to submit your CV and a Cover letter.
How to respond for success
For your CV, a usual well structured typical one page banking format is expected. I included Extra curricular interests and events I attended. I made sure to use appropriate and engaging buzzwords describing the skills I had learnt from previous financial and retail work experience. If it's easy to read and digest, you are on the right tracks!
With regard to the cover letter, use a typical structure for an investment bank. This means a formal letter layout with appropriate addresses and labelling. Have three internal paragraphs writing about “why investment banking” followed by “why JPM” followed by “why me”. Lots of research is required for pointing out why JPM as a firm are unique and why your skills fit appropriately to a role within the company.
Expect a 1-2 month wait before progressing to the next stage.
Video Interview
Expect a 5 question HireView interview. This was the final stage and had some challenging questions. It involved your interest in applying for the program, why JPM, commercial awareness and a competency based question. I prepared answers for most of these types of questions and dressed smart and professionally.
Example task
Expect questions along the lines of, “Why JPM", and “What news article is of interest to you, and how would this affect the investment banking industry?”
