Application process for Operations Intern at Amazon

Online Application

This process is relatively simple. Amazon requires you to submit a CV and answer some basic HR type questions.

How to respond for success

My CV wasn't overly specific towards Amazon. It was tailored to accommodate an application for most STEM roles.

Expect a 1-week wait before progressing to the next stage.

Online Tests

There was an online numerical test followed by a personality test.

The numerical test was focused on stats, verbal reasoning and a general understanding of mathematical concepts that can be used in business (e.g. probability of events). I have a strong core understanding of maths, but I'm very glad I still revisited and practised basic stats.

The Personality test had 2 parts: Questions about what you would do in a scenario, and Questions about what type of person you think you are.

Example task

They would present you with a scenario, (e.g. Productivity is down in this department), then they’d ask you to order 4 possible responses in terms of which one you are most and least likely to do.

Expect a 1-week wait before progressing to the next stage.

Final Interview

The final interview consists of 2 x 30 min interviews with managers. Questions asked are based on Amazon's Leadership principles.

Then they asked some more 'tell me a time when type questions. Be prepared to go into detail about your experiences, what you would have done differently, why you did things a certain way and what you learned from the experience.

Example task

Tell me about a time when you were a leader? - It's best here to have a diverse range of things to talk about. I mentioned my group projects at university, other summer internships, and a Hackathon I took part in.

How to respond for success

The dress code for the day is relatively casual, but sometimes wearing business attire can help one get in the right mindset. In the interview, be genuine and try not to sugar coat things either. It is also important to always tell the absolute truth and be decisive in your answers. The interviewers are really nice so try and relax as well. I'd also advise you to prepare some scenarios / past experiences you think you can talk about in the interviews (I used the STAR (Situation, Task, Action Result) technique to answer some of my interview questions.

Expect a 1 to 2-day wait before receiving your offer!
